Privacy Policy
The Potomac Massage Training Institute (PMTI) is committed to protecting the privacy of its website visitors. When you visit our website, information can be collected both automatically and on a voluntary basis. This policy describes what information we collect from site visitors and how that information is used. This policy does not apply to the practices of companies that PMTI does not own or control, or to people that PMTI does not employ or manage.
Collection of Personally Identifiable Information
Personally identifiable information is collected only on a voluntary basis, at the option of the website user. For example, you may choose to provide your name, address or telephone number in the "Contact Us" section of our website, or you may choose to provide other application or registration information. PMTI may combine information about you that we have with information we obtain from business partners or other companies, strictly for internal tracking purposes and/or for communication with you.
Collection of Non-Personally Identifiable Information
PMTI also collects a variety of information from its website visitors, which is not personally identifiable. This information is collected automatically via the use of cookies and other standard web technology. Examples of such automatically-collected information might include: the operating system on your computer; the type of web browser you are using; your IP address, and the links you followed to enter and leave our website.
Use of Information
Non-personally identifiable information is used to help us improve the effectiveness of our site by enabling us to discover and better address the needs of our site visitors. This includes making our website accessible to the variety of web browsers and operating systems used to access our site. Voluntarily provided personal information collected through the site, such as your name, mailing address, e-mail address and other contact information, is used for the purpose of responding to your requests for information about PMTI. PMTI does not share personal information with third parties, apart from vendors who must utilize the information to perform necessary duties (for example, credit card authorization).
Where appropriate, we may use personally identifiable information to "pre-populate" forms which are displayed for the purpose of collecting individual data by us. In no case does pre-populating a form transfer any data to any third party. Only if the user voluntarily requests that such data be transferred will any transfer take place---for example, if/when a user clicks a "submit form" button.
Except as otherwise described in this privacy statement, PMTI will not disclose personal information to any third party unless we believe that disclosure is necessary: (1) to conform to legal requirements or to respond to a subpoena, search warrant or other legal process received by PMTI, whether or not a response is required by applicable law; (2) to enforce the pmti.org Terms of Use or to protect our rights; or (3) to protect the safety of members of the public and users of the service. We further reserve the right to release any and all information contained within our access logs concerning any visitor when that visitor is in violation of our Terms of Service or other published guidelines, or concerning any visitor who partakes (or is reasonably suspected of partaking) in any illegal activity. PMTI may release such information in response to discovery requests, or in response to any circumstance which we, in our sole discretion, deem an emergency.
If and when we sponsor promotions, we will post relevant privacy information in the official rules and/or registration area for the promotion. That privacy information, to the extent it conflicts with this Privacy Policy, will govern that particular promotion.
User Options Regarding Collection of Information
It is standard practice for most websites to automatically collect non-personally identifiable information about website visitors' Web browser, operating system, IP address and browsing history (such as, which pages on the PMTI website you view). Although website users are unable to opt out of providing this non-personally identifiable information, please rest assured that this information is collected only for PMTI internal website development purposes, and will not be used for PMTI marketing solicitations.
You may opt out of the collection of any other non-personal information through the use of cookies by disabling or rejecting cookies for our site. All of the information gathered on this website is stored within a controlled database that is accessible only to us in order to protect the loss, misuse, or alteration of the information under our control. However, as effective as any security measure implemented by us may be, no security system is impenetrable. We cannot guarantee the security of our database, nor can we guarantee that information you supply will not be intercepted while being transmitted to us over the Internet.
